a few things.

hi.

long time no see.

this morning this was delivered to our house... a side-dump dump trucks worth of top soil. why would we need that you ask? well, for the following...

our backyard.

i am sick just thinking about it. it is scary. we moved in nearly 4 years ago and decided we would tackle the interior of our house and the front yard first. meanwhile, out back we did nothing and thought once we did tackle it, it would be no big deal. not the case. oh how i wish we had the means to hire someone to landscape for us but we do not. we must do it ourselves. it is a mess and it is driving me insane. the weather has not been cooperating, we have no idea what we are doing, and we have been dealing with some pretty flaky excavating contractors. not to mention its weed central and the ghetto water feature the man that lived here before us was attempting to put in. i want to throw in the towel. our dream of a beautiful lawn, a swing set, a few trees and small patio has turned into a nightmare. i am done and it has not even started. did i mention that neither trevan or i are landscapers and that is what our backyard calls for?

but i can't be done. because this little dude needs a backyard to play in, even if it does kill us.

oh and can't forget these two:

i watched brooke's girls while they were in europe for a few days. it was amazing and insane. i love those girls like my own. my kids think the mins and poptart are their siblings and the all get along famously. its nice to have cousins, especially when they are minie and poppy.

and yes... we do sort of live in the ghetto.

  2. Let us know if you want some help on a Saturday or something, I know you have lots of family nearby, but Matt freakishly likes doing yardwork stuff and we like to hang out w/ you guys. :) You can hold Eden & I'll work, because I've discovered it's therapeutic for me to pull weeds.

  3. Kennan I feel your pain. I hate hate hate hate hate anything associated with yard work. Mainly because I don't have a clue. Ryan kind of does, but doesn't like doing it, and my nagging doesn't make him like it any more. :( We finally got our little backyard in a couple summers ago (and by little I mean from the house to the fence it's 16 feet.). but the front yard? We dug out flower beds two years ago with the intent of planting that same spring. Two years later the flower beds still have no shrubbery unless a lot of weeds count. And also, we just found out the grass has some crazy fungus that will take treatments all summer to kill. Can't wait to start nagging Ryan about putting on the fungus killer!

Good luck to you. You are not alone.

  4. My suggestion...ask Rog. His yard always looks A-MAZ-ING! You'll get it done and you'll be so glad. It's not as bad as it seems and Jude and Grets will love you forever for it. Good Luck and don't be intimidated. XOXO

  5. You guys are brave! I agree with your mom though. Finishing our yard was such a big ordeal (read PITA) but it is such a nice place for my kids (you know for the two months that it's not too hot to be outside...). And as a sidenote, I could just die over that picture of Greta. I mean really. Who is THAT cute?

  6. Sooo cute! Greta looks just like you in this pic! We have a lot to do to our yard, as well. Tucker has already taken out like 30 something dead (or just ugly) trees!

I had to laugh about your "ghetto" comment because I just responded to your comment on my blog!!! I feel comforted knowing I am not alone in the ghetto!
